The French low-cost airline Transavia France is establishing itself for the first time in the Swedish market with a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to the southern French city of Montpellier.

This summer it will once again be possible to fly directly between Stockholm Arlanda and Montpellier. On June 11, Transavia France will inaugurate the new direct route and until August 13, they will operate the route Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport (MPL) once a week on Fridays with the Boeing 737 800 aircraft.

The southern French Mediterranean coast is a popular tourist destination from Sweden and in addition to Swedish students, a large number of expatriate Swedes live in the area. Montpellier is the main hub of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region and is described as a picturesque university town.

The route was successfully operated during the summer season before the pandemic broke out but is now idle and the airline is currently the only one operating the route and serving the region. Through Montpellier's central location, the route offers access to large parts of the Mediterranean area and enables a smooth journey to other destinations both within Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence. Transavia France was founded in 2007 and is the low-cost airline of the AirFrance KLM group. In 2020, it opened a base in Montpellier and previously had bases in Paris-Orly, Nantes and Lyon. The company's fleet of aircraft consisted of 40 Boeing 737–800 in 2020 and they offer over 100 destinations from France to mainly coastal cities in the Mediterranean countries and Europe.

Transavia France is completely new at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, but Dutch sister company Transavia operated from there to Eindhoven before the pandemic broke out.
