Uber Technologies has hired former Tesla executive Rebecca Tinucci to accelerate the taxi giant's electrification journey. Tinucci was recently fired by Elon Musk, along with her entire team.

Tinucci, whose entire department will join Uber on Sept. 16 as global head of sustainability, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg News and Reuters. She will report to Andrew Macdonald, the top executive in charge of the company's ride-hailing business.

Uber's goal is for all of its trips and deliveries globally to be made with zero-emission vehicles by 2040.

At Tesla Tinucci helped sign charging station agreements with automakers like Rivian, Ford, and General Motors. The partnerships allowed thousands of drivers to access Tesla's previously closed network of Superchargers, allowing the company to expand that revenue stream.
