| On March 28, 2025, at 1:20 PM local time, central Myanmar, near Mandalay, was struck by a powerful earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremor was felt across large parts of northern and central Thailand, including Bangkok, prompting the Thai Prime Minister to declare Bangkok a disaster zone. Efforts to stabilise the situation are underway, and public services are gradually returning to normal. |
| The following is information and the current status regarding the earthquake's impact on Bangkok and the measures being taken. Transport BTS Skytrain & long-distance lines: Services resumed on the evening of March 28th. MRT Blue & Purple lines: Operational from the morning of March 29th. Pink and Yellow lines in the suburbs remain closed. SRT Red Line & Airport Rail Link: Operating as normal. Air traffic: All Bangkok airports are fully operational. Train services: The State Railway of Thailand is operating to its regular timetable. Road traffic: Most roads are open, with the exception of Din Daeng Expressway, which is temporarily closed for safety inspections. Alternative routes are available via Sirat Expressway. All bridges across the Chao Phraya River are open, and bus services have been increased to facilitate travel. Business & public services Shopping centres Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, ICONSIAM and EM DISTRICT are open as usual. Events & festivals: All planned events and tourist activities, including the Maha Songkran World Water Festival at Sanam Luang, will proceed as scheduled.
