A major fire broke out on Monday morning at Liseberg Oceana Water World in Gothenburg, resulting in the total destruction of the building. The fire, which started on the exterior of the southern part of the building, quickly spread to parts of the pool hall.
One person working on the project on behalf of Liseberg is still missing, and the police have filed a missing person report. A total of sixteen people sought medical attention for minor injuries; all have since left the hospital.
– We are deeply distressed by the devastating incident that occurred at Oceana Water World. Our primary task now is to assist the police in the search for the missing person and to support relatives and those affected, says Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen.
The main focus during the day has been on preventing further injuries and stopping the fire from spreading to adjacent structures and nearby buildings.
Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel and Liseberg's nearby office buildings had to be evacuated in connection with the fire. All guests booked to check in at Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel today and tomorrow have been informed of their cancellations. The hotel, Liseberg's gaming hall and restaurants will be closed for the rest of today and tomorrow, Tuesday.
