VW considers buying majority stake in rental car giant

The German automotive group Volkswagen confirms its intention to take a majority stake in the car rental company Europcar, according to a press release.

Volkswagen writes that the considerations are at an early stage and that no final decisions have been made in the matter.

On Tuesday, Europcar rejected an initial offer from Volkswagen worth 2.2 billion euros.

Europcar shares traded up 6 percent on Thursday, after rising 12.5 percent when Volkswagen's initial bid was presented on Wednesday.
