Between June and August, a total of 1,780,000 passengers travelled on Viking Line's vessels, which is slightly more than the previous year. The freight volume on the shipping company's five vessels increased by 3.6 per cent. At the same time, greenhouse gas emissions decreased thanks to a significant increase in biofuel purchases. This past summer was the first when Viking Line's passengers could choose a completely fossil-free option when booking their journey.

On the line between Helsinki and Tallinn, nearly 740,000 passengers travelled during the summer months, with increased capacity from Viking Cinderella and Gabriella alongside Viking XPRS. The number of passengers between Turku–Stockholm was almost 740,000 and on the Helsinki–Stockholm route, 305,000.

”The summer met our expectations, and we are pleased with the passenger volumes on all routes. The cool early summer had a slight impact on the number of travellers, but the heatwave in July prompted people to book a sea trip. We are particularly happy that the route to Estonia continued its long-standing growth despite increased competition. We strongly believe in the route and presented a plan for a new fully electric ferry concept for Helsinki–Tallinn at the beginning of the summer,” says Viking Line's Deputy CEO Peter Hellgren.

Customer satisfaction reached its highest level ever during the summer season, according to the company's NPS measurements.

”Summer is a busy time on board. The clear increase in customer satisfaction compared to last year shows that our crews and shore staff have done an excellent job and looked after our customers well. For us, it is a matter of honour to offer people memorable holiday experiences,” says Peter Hellgren.

”The trend for local tourism has been ongoing for about five years and shows no signs of slowing down. Åland's popularity as a destination is evident in the fact that the tourist season now extends well into the autumn,” says Viking Line's Head of Communications, Johanna Boijer-Svahnström.

The summer season on the Baltic Sea continues into August thanks to international travellers. More and more travellers are coming from Germany and other parts of Central Europe, with the fastest growing number being Chinese tourists.

”The start of school in Finland means that the summer season comes to an abrupt end. From the perspective of all domestic tourism operators, it would be more than desirable to extend the school holidays until mid-August. This would allow holidaymakers to enjoy the summer heat for longer and, at the same time, a growing number of international tourists would have access to more services, says Johanna Boijer-Svahnström.

Viking Line passenger numbers June–August 2025:

– Helsinki–Tallinn: 737,848 passengers

– Turku–Stockholm: 738,684 passengers

– Helsinki–Stockholm: 303,562 passengers

– Total number of passengers: 1,780,094
