57 people have now been confirmed dead after the major train crash in Greece on Tuesday, reports BBC.

At the same time, anger is growing against the country's government, which is accused of failing to maintain the railway network.

Protests have been held in several cities. On Thursday, railway workers went on strike.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter with indifference.

– He is literally devastated. From day one he has taken on the responsibility that can be demanded of him, says the man's lawyer.

Around 350 people were on board the passenger train when it collided with an oncoming freight train.

At least 48 people are being treated in hospitals.
