A train has derailed in western Egypt. A large number of people are injured.

The accident occurred on Saturday when a passenger train derailed on its way from Cairo to the northwestern province of Matrouh.

Seven wagons derailed and two of them overturned, according to a statement from the country's railway authority. At least three people died and over 90 were injured.

Train accidents occur at regular intervals in Egypt, where the aging railway system has long been plagued by mismanagement.
