A magical forest or a tavern that doesn't exist could win this year's Great Tourism Prize

The nominations for this year's Stora Turismpris are now complete. The prize is awarded to an actor who has contributed to the development of the tourism industry in a new and innovative way. The prize is awarded for the 28th year in a row by the Foundation for the Advancement of Knowledge in Tourism.

Many companies in the hospitality industry have had to adapt to new markets and customer groups in the wake of the pandemic. The nominees for the Stora Turismpriset are inspiring examples of companies that have adapted to the new conditions.

This year's nominees offer a wide range of experiences. Everything from providing visitors with knowledge about fishing, history and beer to music, theatre, locally produced food, scenic accommodation and activities such as skiing and cycling.

 – What the nominees have in common is that they have impressively managed to change and think differently. Among other things, they have worked to develop new business models, targeted new target groups and focused on sustainability issues. We see them all as role models in developing the tourism industry, says Lars Christensen, chairman of the Foundation for the Advancement of Knowledge in Tourism.

The criteria for the Great Tourism Prize are that the nominees must:

– contribute to new thinking and innovative development of the tourism industry

– develop, disseminate and share knowledge to strengthen the tourism industry

– methodically and purposefully develop a sustainable business

– managed to restructure its operations during the pandemic

The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development is the principal of the Foundation for the Promotion of Knowledge in Tourism, which awards the Stora Turismpriset, the Cicerone of the Year, and works to spread knowledge to players in the tourism industry.
