IAG, the parent company of the airline British Airways, is considering legal action to review the UK's quarantine rules. According to the CEO, the company has no possibility of resuming flights in July unless the rules are changed, writes Reuters.

In May, the UK Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that all arrivals to the country must self-isolate for two weeks to minimise the risk of spreading infection. The new rules are intended to take effect from 8 June.

However, quarantine regulations risk putting a spanner in the works as airlines begin to resume their operations during the summer. Willie Walsh, CEO of IAG, which owns British Airways among others, told Sky News that there had been no consultation with the industry before the change in law was decided.

”I wrote to MEPs last night to say that this initiative has actually dashed our hopes of flying in July,” Willie Walsh told the channel, according to Reuters.

According to him, the quarantine rules deter people from booking flights.

”We find it irrational, we find it disproportionate, and we are contemplating legal challenge to this legislation,” says Willie Walsh.

The past week has seen a tense atmosphere between British Airways and the UK Parliament. The company continues to haemorrhage money and is on the verge of implementing 12,000 job cuts, while British Airways is receiving state aid, which has led MPs to accuse the company of taking financial advantage without saving jobs.
