The Trusteeship Foundation for Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television and Utbildningsradion nominated Christina Björklund as the new chair of SVT's board earlier this year. She has been vice chair of SVT's board for the past year, where she has been a member since 2019.
Today, Wednesday, April 17, the formal decision was made at SVT's general meeting.
– Being SVT's Chairman of the Board is an important task in the service of the public – just like my assignment as CEO of the Gothenburg Opera. I hope that with my experiences, as CEO of one of Sweden's largest cultural institutions and with my background in the media industry, I can contribute with perspectives and knowledge that strengthen SVT and public service, says Christina Björklund.
Christina Björklund has been CEO of the Gothenburg Opera since 2017. She has previously been CEO of Hallpressen AB and CEO of Västgöta-Tidningar (VGT). She also sits on the board of the Swedish Performing Arts Association and the University of Gothenburg.
The boards of public service companies make decisions about the general direction of the operations but never about the content of the programs or the news evaluation. The members must be people who are well-established in Swedish society, with experience from various complementary areas such as culture, public education and business.
