The Cuban government announces that it will allow more privately owned small businesses to operate in the country, where the economy is largely state-controlled.
The move, published by state-controlled media on Saturday, means private companies can operate in over 2,000 areas of operation – an increase from the current 127 areas allowed.
Labor Minister Marta Elena Feito Cabrera says 124 areas of activity will not be included in the reform. She did not specify which ones.
Cuba has been hit hard economically. The reason is mainly the consequences of the corona pandemic, reduced tourism, and harsh sanctions from the United States under former President Donald Trump.
