The Danish government is making a strong investment in tourism. A total of almost 160 million Danish kroner is being allocated to strengthen the country's attractiveness through investments in both food and cycling tourism. The investment will contribute to strengthening Denmark's position as a sustainable and competitive destination in the international market in the long term.
40 million for food and gastro tourism
Over 40 million Danish kroner will be spent on strengthening Denmark's role as an international food and gastronomy destination. A new advisory body will be established to develop strategic recommendations for the future.
“Denmark already has a strong position as a food and gastronomy destination. One third of foreign tourists cite food experiences as a reason for traveling, and the government's initiative will further strengthen our competitiveness in the long term,” says Katja Moesgaard, CEO of VisitDenmark.
Denmark is known for its Michelin stars and New Nordic cuisine, but also for local produce and traditional dishes. From farm shops and smokehouses to gastronomic gems in the cities, the food attracts tourists all year round.
– 36% of foreign tourists cite food as a reason for traveling
– 9 out of 10 are satisfied with their dining experiences in Denmark
114 million for bicycle projects
The government is also investing over DKK 114 million in four new national cycling projects in Jutland, Funen and Zealand. The investment includes new cycle paths, safer intersections and better access to scenic areas.
In addition, SEK 5 million is being allocated to a study that will improve bicycle parking and accessibility at Copenhagen Central Station, to facilitate the combination of cycling and train travel.
