Just over a year ago, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, closed again due to the spread of the coronavirus. The theme park will soon reopen again.
The announcement that the Disneyland Resort, which includes Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, will reopen on April 30 was made by Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek on CNBC's Squawk Alley.
”"We have seen the enthusiasm and desire of people to return to our parks around the world," said the Disney CEO.
All theme parks in California have been closed due to corona restrictions since March 2020. At the same time, states like Florida have allowed earlier openings with restrictions, which has allowed Disney World to remain open.
”We’ve had Disney World up and running for about nine months and there’s really been no shortage of demand,” noted Bob Chapek.
According to Bob Chapek, Disneyland's two California parks will initially operate at 15 percent capacity.
California is currently reporting 2,900 new COVID-19 cases per day this week, down 32 percent from the previous week. The number of infections has been declining as more Americans have been vaccinated, currently around 2.4 million per day.
Orange County, where Disney's theme parks are located, is now seeing 4 new cases per 100,000 residents per day. At its peak, there were 118 new cases per day.
