Libya is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Yet 90,000 international tourists travel to the country every year, according to Travel and Tour World. It is considered part of the "danger tourism" trend, writes Daily Mail.
Since the overthrow of dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011, Libyahas been marked by political chaos, armed conflict and power struggles between different groups. In recent years, there have been several bombings and deadly clashes.
Libya is considered one of the most dangerous countries in the world by Global Guardian who assesses that the risk of visiting the country is ”extreme.” The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to Libya.
Yet the country attracts 90,000 international tourists each year, which is partly believed to be due to "danger tourism" when people visit dangerous places, film it and post it on social media, writes the Daily Mail.
”Our bodyguard took his job very seriously”
Two who have made the trip are the couple Hudson and Emily. Their goal is to visit every country in the world and had two left after the couple managed to check off Libya last year.
“Our bodyguard took his job very seriously, to the point that he even came with us to the bathroom. I honestly never imagined we would get to see some of these countries and I just feel so grateful,” Hudson and Emily tell Mirror.
The couple praised the ruins of Leptis Magna and the ”beautiful” streets of Tripoli, which led them to ignore experts’ warnings about the extreme danger of visiting the country.
