Finnlines CEO Thomas Doepel comments on the interim report: “The first nine months of the year confirm that we are back on track. The rationalization of our RoRo fleet and the investments made in passenger traffic have laid the foundation for the satisfactory result. Passenger operations’ turnover increased by EUR 7.2 million and amounted to a record high of EUR 89.5 million. Together with reduced debt and lower interest rates, this explains the significant improvement in results.
Finnlines Group's revenue in January–September 2025 amounted to EUR 547.1 million (EUR 547.2 million in 2024). Operating profit (EBIT) was EUR 74.5 million (EUR 72.3 million in 2024). The result for 2024 includes gains from the sale of three vessels, reported under other operating income. The operating profit (EBIT) thus improved by EUR 17.6 million compared to the previous year.
The profit for the period amounted to EUR 68.4 million (EUR 52.1 million in 2024).
During the reporting period, Finnlines transported 592,000 freight units, 51,000 passenger cars and 871,000 tonnes of non-unit cargo. A total of 831,000 private passengers and professional drivers travelled with us.
The shipping industry has long been committed to environmental responsibility, and the sector has a clear goal. The UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a goal of achieving global carbon-neutral shipping by 2050. However, in mid-October, the IMO voted to postpone discussions on the so-called Net Zero Framework. It is clear that national interests continue to influence decisions, creating uncertainty around the transition to green shipping. Despite this, Finnlines remains as committed as ever to achieving its environmental goals.
Finnlines has worked for decades to offer economically and environmentally sustainable services. The company has made extensive investments to increase energy efficiency and renew its fleet. Over the past two decades, Finnlines has ordered or purchased twenty ships, with total investments of almost two billion euros. In addition, over 200 million euros have been invested in upgrades to the existing fleet over the past decade.
In April 2025, Finnlines announced a new investment program that includes three new methanol-powered RoPax vessels, planned to enter service on the Finland-Germany route in 2028–2029. These investments will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of a significantly lower environmental footprint.
At the same time, we are continuously developing other ways to reduce our customers’ carbon footprint. This is done by introducing low-carbon transport solutions, electrifying ship operations, using biofuels, improving tonnage utilization and developing our route network. By offering our customers a cost-effective and practical intermodal alternative to road transport, we can play a central role in the green transition.
Finnlines remains committed to developing its commercial routes between Sweden and Poland, Finland and Poland, as well as the recently introduced connections between Poland and Belgium, France, the UK and Spain. The new connection enables a direct connection from Poland to the Grimaldi Group’s global network, with links to the Far East, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, West Africa, South America and the US East Coast.”
