As of the beginning of the year, it is once again illegal to fly another country's flag in Denmark. But there are some exceptions.

The Folketinget has voted in favor of regulating this, after Denmark's Supreme Court made a decision earlier this year that effectively overturned a previous prohibition law from 1915.

At the time, it was about a family in Jutland who were brought to trial for hoisting the American flag on their flagpole. A long legal process was pursued to the highest court, where it was ruled that there is no reason for the authorities to intervene when someone wants to hoist another country's flag on their own flagpole.

Denmark's current government has initiated new legislation to ban this. With the support of right-wing opposition parties, it was finally hammered through on Tuesday.
