Germany will lift its travel advice for all EU countries as well as the United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland from June 15, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced at a press conference in Berlin.
Just like Sweden and many other countries, Germany introduced a global travel advisory in the spring as a result of the corona pandemic, guidelines that are now being changed. When it comes to non-EU countries, Germany wants to wait for the EU's assessment of the situation and then make a decision, according to Maas.
Germany has the largest population in Europe, but has nevertheless had far fewer deaths than other large European countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy – just over 8,500. Many analysts attribute Germany's success to extensive testing and a well-developed healthcare system.
