London also now looks set to introduce a kind of "tourist tax" that will be added to the price of hotel rooms, rentals via Airbnb and the like, writes The Standard. There is no information on exactly how much the potential tax will end up at, but it is believed to be able to give London tax revenue of around 250 million pounds, equivalent to around 3.1 billion Swedish kronor, annually.
Several other cities around the world have already introduced similar taxes. In Paris, the additional fee is €3.25 per night in a two-star hotel and €8.45 for a night in a four-star hotel. Other cities that have introduced a tourist tax on accommodation include New York, Tokyo, Lisbon, Barcelona and Prague.
