In Australia's second largest city, Melbourne, residents were finally allowed to emerge from what has been called the world's longest Covid-19 lockdown at midnight local time.
For 262 days, or almost nine months, severe restrictions have been in place.
Cafés, restaurants and bars are allowed to receive 20 fully vaccinated guests indoors and 50 outdoors - to enter, a vaccination certificate and face protection are required both indoors and outdoors.
Just over 70 percent of Melbourne's population is dual-vaccinated. When that number reaches 80 percent, authorities will lift further restrictions. The portion of the population that has not been vaccinated will have to wait until December before they can leave their homes.
