January this year broke records as the warmest January month globally to date.
This means that heat records have been broken for eight months in a row, according to the EU's climate service Copernicus.
Last month's average temperature was confirmed at 13.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees above the second warmest January on record, 2020.
