New rules for the EU vaccine passport are underway as the number of new Covid-19 cases continues to increase across Europe.
EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides is expected to make proposals within a few days on how the Union's vaccine passport should be adapted as more and more countries give their citizens an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Good, says EU Minister Hans Dahlgren (S).
”"There will be a proposal from the Commission soon on how to develop these Covid certificates so that they provide space to register these refill doses that many have already taken, but also on how to look at an appropriate period of time for how long they should be valid," says Dahlgren on site in Brussels.
On Tuesday, he and other EU ministers had the chance to talk about the corona situation and what can and should be done together now that the infection is now increasing sharply again.
Above all, Dahlgren emphasizes the importance of continued vaccination.
”"We must increase this together. Vaccination rates must increase in all EU countries. We must not return to the situation we had at the beginning of the pandemic when we started closing borders for trade in goods," says the EU Minister.
However, Dahlgren is hesitant about mandatory vaccination – which, for example, the hard-pressed Austria intends to introduce from February 1. In that case, it would be better to combat the false information that is being spread about the vaccine.
”"I'm doubtful whether you can force a person to get vaccinated. But it shows the necessity of also dealing with this issue of disinformation and fake news that is spread about what happens when you get vaccinated. It's the right way to go," says Dahlgren in Brussels.
