91 per cent of trains arrived at their final destination on time. This is the highest March figure in several years.
A total of 96,400 passenger trains ran during the month. Trafikverket (The Swedish Transport Administration) emphasises that this was the highest number of passenger trains to have run in the country in a single month.
”As we now catch up on deferred maintenance at record speed and more trains continue to run on the Swedish railway network, punctuality will improve,” says Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (KD).
Punctuality (according to the measure less than six minutes delayed) is the highest for a March since 2021. Cancelled trains are not included in the statistics, which has previously been criticised.
It is primarily the long-distance trains, such as express and high-speed trains, that are dragging down the statistics. Here, only 77.8 per cent of the 8,075 trains arrived on time. Thus, more than one in five trains were at least six minutes late.
The railway industry's target is 95 percent punctuality.
”I expect punctuality to increase as we get more maintenance work done.”
A cloud of concern looms summer is so-called track running, where unauthorised people cut across the tracks, for example. Last year, 10,000 trains were delayed as a result of this. In March, it caused 700 delays.
