Airline Norwegian may lower its prices after the oil price has plummeted over the past week.

– That may well happen, we follow the developments every day, says the airline's CEO Geir Karlsen.

A barrel of North Sea oil cost $78 on Wednesday morning, compared to just over $90 a week earlier. At the beginning of May, the price per barrel was around $110.

– The fuel price and oil price have come down quite significantly in fact over the past week and we are happy about that, says Karlsen.

Besides energy prices, market demand and competitors' actions also affect airfares, he says.

The question is whether holiday trips can become cheaper.

- We are now well into June and have already sold a large proportion of our tickets for the summer. Prices do not normally go down during the absolute peak season.
