Poland will open its borders to travelers to and from EU countries starting this weekend, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced. International air traffic will also be allowed starting Tuesday, June 16.
”In some countries around the world, especially in Latin America but also North America, the pandemic continues to behave in a very worrying way,” says Morawiecki.
”That is why we are currently limiting our decision to EU countries,” the Prime Minister continues, emphasizing that the bulk of Poland's exports go to EU countries.”
Poland has reported 27,842 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,206 deaths.
The government began easing restrictions in May, when restaurants, among other things, opened and the limit for public gatherings was raised to 150 people.
The country has recently been hit by a new wave of infections linked to coal mines in southern Poland, leading to the temporary closure of some of them. At the same time, the election campaign is in full swing ahead of the presidential election, the first round of which will be held on June 28.
