Portofino has had enough of people walking around barefoot, sitting in swimsuits and carrying suitcases in public places. Starting Tuesday, a ban will be introduced against these and other things, reports The Mirror.
If you've been planning to walk around barefoot in the Italian town of Portofino, you should have done so last week. As of Tuesday, that and wearing swimwear in large parts of the city center are prohibited, after the municipality issued a new ordinance.
Furthermore, a ban is being placed on drinking alcohol in public places unless it is done in a restaurant, or in specially designated areas.
Prohibited with suitcases
The city is also introducing a ban on begging, whether it is done intrusively or not. This also means that it is now forbidden to sit or lie on streets, walls, sidewalks and in parks.
You also have to think about whether you planned to be in public places with suitcases, picnic equipment or speakers.
If you happen to commit any of these violations, you can expect a fine of anywhere between 290 and 5900 kronor, depending on how serious the violation is.
Want to create peace
The purpose of the bans is to maintain the "calm" that tourists and residents expect when they visit "this exclusive coastal resort.".
Portofino is a popular place for tourists to visit, especially during the summer.
These rules apply during the summer months and until September 30. The bans mainly apply to the city center and the area around the harbor.
