Greece has recorded its warmest July on record, according to the country's national observatory. A similar record was set in June.
The average temperature has increased by 2.5 degrees in Greece, according to the observatory. Three of the four warmest July temperatures in the last 80 years have been measured in the last four years – and according to preliminary figures, July 2024 was the warmest on record, the observatory writes on its website. The temperature exceeded the previous record from 2012 by 0.3 degrees.
Last month, the observatory announced that Greece this year also recorded its warmest June in 60 years. The EU's climate service Copernicus has also stated that July 21 of this year was the warmest day ever measured on Earth.
