Ryanair aims to start flying Boeing's 737 Max aircraft from the beginning of next year, according to the CEO of Ryanair's operational division Ryanair DAC, Eddie Wilson, according to the Independent.
”It gives us lower variable costs. In the environment we are in now, the 737 Max will be welcomed not only by Ryanair, but also by our staff,” says Eddie Wilson.
Ryanair is by far Europe's largest customer for the 737 Max, which is more fuel-efficient and less environmentally harmful than previous versions of the 737. Ryanair has an outstanding order for 135 of the aircraft, in a special version with 197 seats, as well as an option to buy a further 75 planes.
Ryanair was supposed to start flying the 737 Max in May 2019, but the model has been subject to a global flight ban since March 2019 after two high-profile fatal crashes in a short period of time before that.
