SAS is making the largest investment in the company's history by committing to up to 40 Airbus long-haul aircraft. The investment will strengthen the airline's intercontinental route network and improve Scandinavia's global accessibility over the coming decades.
The order comprises new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft and additional Airbus A330-300 aircraft which will be used to meet growing demand before the new generation aircraft are delivered. The total order value exceeds US$10 billion at list prices and is the largest aircraft order in SAS's history.
– For 80 years, SAS has connected Scandinavia with the world. Now we are investing in the next chapter of our history. This is the biggest investment in the company's history and clear proof of our confidence in the future, says SAS President and CEO Anko van der Werff.

To strengthen the intercontinental network of routes
The investment is part of SAS's long-term strategy to develop its long-haul network and create better connections between Scandinavia and key markets in North America, Asia, and other parts of the world.
The investment follows last year's order of 55 Embraer E195-E2 for regional traffic and the ongoing modernisation of the Airbus A320neo fleet. Together, the investments represent the largest renewal of SAS's aircraft fleet in several decades.

Analysis points to thousands of new jobs
In connection with the announcement, SAS also presented a new analysis of the socio-economic impact of expanding operations at Copenhagen Airport.
According to the report, SAS's planned expansion could contribute about 25,000 new jobs and an additional 25 billion Danish kroner to Denmark's GDP by 2030. Furthermore, approximately 4,000 new jobs are expected to be created in southern Sweden.
– Strong international accessibility is a competitive advantage. In a world where investments, skills, and business opportunities move across borders, well-connected regions are strongest. By investing in our future, we contribute to long-term value creation for all of Scandinavia, says Anko van der Werff.
Focus on sustainable development
SAS emphasizes that continued expansion will have sustainability as a central part of its strategy. Alongside the aircraft investment, the company has signed a letter of intent with SkyKraft to explore the possibilities of developing e-SAF, synthetic sustainable aviation fuel, as part of the transition towards more sustainable aviation.
The new Airbus A330-900neo will offer lower fuel consumption, reduced noise levels, and improved passenger comfort compared to previous generations of long-haul aircraft.
