Stable travel during the spring is now transitioning into the homecoming period

From just over 55 percent at the beginning of the year to around 80 percent in recent months. This is how travel has developed so far this year compared to 2019 levels. Now everyday travel is transitioning into the summer heat and SL is hoping for many homecoming trips.

At the beginning of the year, there were still restrictions and travel was therefore low, just over 55 percent of 2019 levels. During the spring, more and more people have started to travel with SL and the number of passengers on the metro and commuter trains stabilized in a few months at just over 80 percent.

It is mainly on weekends that travel is approaching 2019 levels. In recent weeks, 9 out of 10 have traveled with SL on Saturdays and Sundays and up to 8 out of 10 on weekdays, compared to before the pandemic.

– Now travel is entering a summer phase where fewer people go to work but more people go to the archipelago and other places to spend their holidays. For the first time since the pandemic, we can market travel with SL during the summer again. At the same time, we have more ways to buy tickets. For example, it is just as easy for tourists to swipe their payment card for a single ticket as it is for us Stockholmers. It will be exciting to follow up on travel during the summer, says Erik Norling, Traffic Director at SL

You can follow how the number of entries into the metro and commuter train barriers varies, compared to the number of entries in a ”normal year.” Here, 2019 is used, which was the last full year without a pandemic.

According to a press release.
