Swedavia is strengthening its work to coordinate assignments from travelers who use Swedavia's PRM service (Persons with Reduced Mobility). With digital solutions, assignments at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport can be coordinated better and faster.
Just in time for the summer's most intense holiday travel season, Swedavia is strengthening its work with task coordination so that the right person is available in the right place when a traveler needs assistance. At Landvetter, a web application for efficient task coordination has recently been launched. At Arlanda, the application has been available for a long time, but now a function is being launched that follows the position of wheelchairs at the airport in real time, allowing Swedavia's staff to quickly find a free wheelchair when a traveler needs one. In addition to the new digital tool, the work process has also been improved.
– We are continuously working to develop our processes to give travelers the best possible experience at our airports, and digitalization and innovation play an important role here. A well-functioning PRM service is of utmost importance to Swedavia as our airports must be accessible and offer a good experience for everyone, says Karin Gylin, Head of Strategic Development and Innovation at Swedavia.
At Arlanda alone, nearly 100 people work with the PRM service. During high season, this number doubles to meet increased traveler demand and cover holidays.
– In a typical week during the summer, we can have 3,000 PRM assignments to coordinate and execute in a timely manner. The new app with positioning will make things much easier for both our staff who use it and our travelers who seek help from Swedavia's PRM service. Through this solution, waiting times for assistance from our PRM service can be reduced and the experience improved, while at the same time improving the working environment for employees, says Fredrik Holgersson, business process owner for the PRM process at Arlanda.
In addition to the PRM service we offer to disabled and mobility-impaired people, Swedavia's assistance team helps hundreds of unaccompanied children every week during peak season.
– A new feature this summer is that we now also have a counter centrally in Terminal 5 at Arlanda where we coordinate the work. This is to ensure a good product for our travelers and airlines, concludes Fredrik Holgersson.
Swedavia's PRM service
Swedavia's assistance for people with disabilities or reduced mobility is free of charge and can be pre-booked through the airline. A tip is to book well in advance.
Accompanying children traveling alone must be pre-booked through your airline, which usually charges a service fee for the service.
In addition to wheelchairs and escorts, the PRM service has a number of vehicles to assist and two "highloaders".
