The major Swedish ski resorts appear to be heading towards a new record season, according to a survey conducted by Sveriges Radio Ekot.
Among other things, Funäsfjällen has almost 30 percent more bookings this year than last year, which was their record year. Åre reported an increase of 14 percent in October, and in Stöten in Sälen, 95 percent of last year's total volume has already been booked.
Part of the explanation is said to be more visitors from abroad.
”"17 percent of our entire volume is booked from Denmark and last year it was zero percent considering the border closed," says Johan Thorn, CEO of Stöten in Sälen, to Ekot.
But at the same timet as restaurateurs plan for après-ski and the nightclubs in Åre will stay open this year, increased spread of infection and tightened restrictions are also creating great concern and uncertainty.
”"Everyone is planning for opening, because that's what we know right now and that's what we're dealing with. Then I also know that all those types of businesses will use vaccination certificates, Covid passports and ID checks at the door," says Therese Sjölundh, CEO of the destination company in Åre.
