Tallink's ferry Baltic Queen suffered an engine failure at sea on Monday, interrupted its journey to Stockholm and turned back towards the port of Tallinn in Estonia.
– It is an extremely unusual occasion where three out of four engines are not working. For safety reasons, they have turned back to fix the problems, says Mats Lennartson, Head of Communications at Tallink Silja.
The error has not posed any danger to safety on board, the shipping company emphasizes.
– It can be steered, but you don't want to travel through the archipelago in that condition.
The ferry is expected back in port at 11 p.m. There are about 500 passengers on board. Those who were supposed to disembark in Stockholm will be allowed to travel on Tuesday, either with the Baltic Queen or with another ship that is in the dock, the shipping company said.
– There will be a delay and delay in the trips back and forth to Tallinn. Guests will be taken care of and accommodation will be available on board, says Mats Lennartson.
Baltic Queen has capacity for 2,800 passengers.
