”It's like coming home”
Was it the longing for Sälen's best slopes? The sunny lunches at the outdoor cafes? Or perhaps the chance to help shape and develop Sweden's premier ski resort? The answer is simple – it was all of this and more.
Tomas Berg is back in Stöten after three years as destination manager for Skistar Sälen and as technical manager in Kläppen. Tomas will work together with Johan Thorn, who after successful years as CEO of Stöten now continues as CEO and member of the board of directors of Stöten's various companies. Johan Thorn will also work with other board assignments within Adolfsen Group.
What are you looking forward to in your new role as Stöten's destination manager?
– It feels great that starting this winter we will be offering skiing from dawn to dusk. Morning skiing on freshly made Manchester snow four times a week from 7:30 am and extended opening hours on all lit slopes until 6:00 pm. More time on the slopes, more fun on your skis!
This winter will also see the premiere of more new features in Stöten. Backen Illern will be transformed into an off-piste loop for freeride in fluffy powder, and for the youngest, Stöten Junior Park will be launched. There is something for everyone here, whether you are a powder lover or a beginner on skis.
– With 50 slopes of varying difficulty levels and a snowmaking system that guarantees snow safety, it is a fantastic feeling to be part of a facility that is investing so much. We have already invested 60 million SEK in recent years in our snowmaking system and are now making further investments to ensure a white winter – regardless of the weather, says Tomas.
So what does a perfect day in Stöten look like in your opinion?
– Start with Älvan from the top, turn off at the double lift and go down through Näcken all the way to the ski square – that’s Sälen at its best. After a good snowfall I take the Vargy Express, keep left and enjoy sliding through sparse forest and further down into the ravine – perhaps the best off-piste runs in the entire Sälenfjällen. And of course you should treat yourself to a long lunch in the sun with a view of the ski area and time to plan your next run. It’s pure skiing joy!
From gunner to destination manager
Stöten is not just a new workplace for Tomas – it is home turf. Back in the 90s, he started his career here as a piste skier, which then led to a role as operations manager before moving on to Kläppen and Skistar Sälen. Now he is back where it all began.
– It feels like coming home. It's both exciting and a little nerve-wracking to return to the roots, says Tomas.
With Tomas Berg at the helm, an exciting winter awaits in Stöten – filled with news, initiatives and memorable rides. Here at Sälen's northernmost ski resort, neither the snow nor the experiences will end!
