The US Department of Justice will present a settlement agreement to Boeing in which the aviation giant admits to crimes after two fatal plane crashes, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.
Relatives are furious about the news and want the matter to be taken to court.
According to consistent American media reports, the Department of Justice has notified relatives of the 346 who died in two plane crashes in 2018 and 2019 in Indonesia and Ethiopia that it will move forward with the agreement.
Such an agreement includes, among other things, fines, admission of violations of fraud laws and the appointment of a so-called ”overcoat”, an independent observer who ensures that the company complies with the rules.
Boeing has until the end of the week, Sunday, July 7, to respond. If it says no, the department will take Boeing to court.
Relatives reportedly reacted with anger.
"We're outraged. They should just press charges instead," Nadia Milleron, whose daughter died in one of the accidents, told the AP.
