Investigators propose biofuel requirements for aviation

Airlines should be forced to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by mixing biofuel into the tank, the government's special investigator Maria Wetterstrand suggests, writes Dagens Nyheter.

According to the proposal, the reduction obligation will be limited to only reducing emissions by 1–5 percent by 2025, as there will be a shortage of biofuels at first. After that, emissions will be reduced by 25–30 percent by 2030.

The price of air travel will be increased by around 250 kronor for an intercontinental trip if the proposal becomes a reality, due to biofuel being more expensive than regular aviation fuel, according to the investigation.
