St. Mark's Square in Venice was closed again due to high water levels on Sunday. The high water is now about 150 centimeters above normal levels. However, the water levels are expected to decrease slightly in the coming days.
The floods, as salt water rushed into shops, homes and historic buildings, have already caused damage that is estimated to cost billions to restore.
The situation was at its most critical on Tuesday, when the water rose to 187 centimeters – the highest level in over 50 years.
