The forecast for the Swedish tourism industry this summer is good. Campsites, hotels and holiday villages are experiencing heavy booking pressure.

”"It is this special situation in the economy that is giving the tourism industry a boost," says Jim Hofverberg, at Visit Sweden.

Lena Börtin, sales manager at Stugsommar, sees that more and more Swedish guests are booking into cottages and houses around the country this summer.

”"This year we have an 18 percent increase compared to last year in Swedish guests renting cottages from us, and we are seeing a large increase in Danish tourists who are getting a currency effect here," she says.

Tourism consumption in Sweden today reaches 249 million kronor, which is 17.7 percent more than in 2020. Four out of ten Swedes plan to travel within Sweden instead of traveling abroad, according to Visit Sweden's latest travel survey.

”"I believe that it is this special situation in the economy that is giving the tourism industry a boost. And the Swedish tourism industry really needs this boost after the pandemic years," says Jim Hofverberg, Head of Communications at Visit Sweden.

The Swedish tourism industry, including the hotel and tourism industry, campsites, holiday villages and amusement parks, needs a boost after the pandemic.

”"We believe that inflation and the low value of the Swedish krona will benefit tourism positively when travelers out there learn how affordable it is to vacation in Sweden," he says.

”"Demand to visit Sweden has increased by 40 percent, so we see that booking pressure continues to rise," says Per Christiansen, spokesperson for the search site Momondo.

Among foreign tourists, it is mainly Germans, English, Austrians and the population of the Nordic countries who plan to visit Swedish destinations. The Swedes who "stay home" choose cheaper accommodation and have a lower consumption than before the pandemic, according to Momondo's latest compilation of search data.

”We had a very strong recovery last spring and especially the summer where we had pent-up demand,” says Thomas Jakobsson.
