In two months, between May and July, 1,180 people have died as a result of the high temperatures, RTVE reports.

This compares to 2024 when 114 heat-related deaths were reported. 

Those who have died are mainly older people over the age of 65. There are also more women than men affected. 

At the end of June, a heat wave swept across Spain, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees in several cities.
