SAS is introducing a night stop in Kiruna from the start of the winter program on October 25. With an early morning departure from Kiruna to Stockholm and a late evening departure back, it will be possible to travel during the day between the cities. At the same time, SAS is increasing the number of departures from Copenhagen, Scandinavia's global hub, to Kiruna to meet the growing international interest in Scandinavian winter destinations.

With the new night stop, Kiruna residents can fly to Stockholm in the morning, spend a full day in the city and return home the same evening. The initiative is part of SAS's continued work to strengthen accessibility in Sweden through a stronger domestic network and better connections between the regions in Scandinavia and further out into the world.

The overnight stop makes it possible for Kiruna residents to travel to Stockholm during the day, which strengthens accessibility in the region. At the same time, we see growing international interest in Swedish Lapland, and with more departures from Copenhagen, we are making it easier for travelers from all over the world to reach Kiruna. As we develop the network, we do so with the same focus on stable operations and high punctuality that our customers expect from SAS,” says Henrik Winell, Vice President Network at SAS.

During the peak season, December 17–March 7, SAS will increase the number of departures between Copenhagen and Kiruna from two to three per week. The schedule is designed to provide international travelers with seamless connections via Copenhagen – Scandinavia’s global hub with direct connections to destinations in Europe, North America and Asia.

The initiative also means that residents of northern Sweden will have smoother connections to Europe and further afield via Copenhagen and SAS's global network. The improved connections to Kiruna will also contribute to increased tourism and improved accessibility to northern Scandinavia.

It is very pleasing that SAS is now expanding traffic between Kiruna Airport and Stockholm Arlanda Airport.,” says Ulf Nygren, airport manager at Kiruna Airport.”The increased traffic strengthens accessibility between northern Sweden and Stockholm, which benefits both the business community and the tourism industry. It also gives the people of Norrbotten a smoother journey out into the world from Stockholm Arlanda..”

Kiruna Lappland and the entire tourism industry in Kiruna are delighted to welcome SAS's announcement to expand traffic to Kiruna, both through new night stops and increased traffic from Copenhagen. The increased accessibility makes it easier for both international and Swedish travelers to get here and strengthens the opportunities to develop the destination together with SAS,” says Peter Salomonsson, CEO/Tourism Manager at Kiruna Lappland.
