The passengers were supposed to fly on vacation. Instead, the plane took off without them while they stood in a stairwell for half an hour.

– It was like an episode of ”Bang in the building,” passenger Matt tells Manchester Evening News.

Briton Matt was scheduled to fly on a Jet2 plane from Manchester, England, to Alicante, Spain, on Monday. He and about 30 other travelers had shown their passports and had their boarding passes scanned at the airport. But when they were about to board the plane, something went wrong.

”There were a few stairs so the herd mentality was that we all went down the stairs and followed each other. There were a lot of us. And then we thought, ”Why aren’t these doors open?” We thought a bus was going to come and pick us up and take us to the plane. We were there for ten minutes, 20, 30, then we thought, ”What’s going on?’ We were literally trapped like animals in a cage,” says Matt.

Then an airport employee came in from the runway and the passengers asked what was going on. He then allegedly told the passengers that ”the plane is gone.” It had taken off without them.

“I was completely amazed,” says Matt.

”Never seen anything like it”

He described it as ”like an episode of ’Bang in the Building’”.

“You’ve never seen anything like it,” Matt says.

Passengers were reportedly told that there was an ”error in the stairwell instructions.”. 

"It's unbelievable. I don't even think this has happened before," Matt says.

The airline has apologized to passengers.

"Our team is looking after these passengers and we have already arranged for them to take other flights to Alicante today. We would of course like to apologise to these customers," a Jet2 spokesperson said.
