A major winter storm with heavy snowfall and strong gusts of wind has moved in across the western and central parts of the United States. Hundreds of flights have been canceled and tens of thousands of homes have been left without power as a result of the storm.
It looks like there will be increasingly heavy snowfall on Wednesday as the weather system moves east towards the populous northeastern United States.
By 11 a.m. Swedish time, more than 600 flights to and from the United States had been canceled, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing the air traffic website Flightaware.
The worst-hit airports are Denver International and St. Paul International. Southwest Airlines – which has already canceled nearly 200 flights – expects more cancellations and delays in the coming days.
Meteorologists are warning of record snowfall in several locations and in the state of California, more than 145,000 homes are without power.
