During the first four weeks of March, the number of hotel rooms sold in Sweden decreased by 5 percent compared to the same period in 2023. The decline is explained by the fact that Easter fell in March, while last year it fell in April.
During the first quarter of this year, the number of hotel rooms sold decreased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year.
”"Despite a decrease in the number of hotel rooms sold in March and the first quarter, the hotel market has held up surprisingly well considering the current economic situation with high interest rates and inflation. The cost situation for companies is still very high and the situation has been worsened by the government raising employer contributions and taxes," says Thomas Jakobsson, chief economist at Visita, in a comment.
