The German airline Lufthansa has canceled more than 800 flights on Tuesday, which is about half of the company's total number of scheduled flights.

The announcement comes after the Verdi union begins a strike that includes airports.

Verdi has demanded a 6 percent pay rise for its 2.3 million members in various public services in Germany. According to the union, the strike will include employees at the airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne and Bremen.

Among the canceled flights are 58 long-haul flights.

Flights from Arlanda affected
Around ten flights to and from Arlanda are cancelled tomorrow. These are flights going both to and from Munich and Frankfurt in Germany.
