A weaker exchange rate and a cooler climate are believed to have contributed to a record number of foreign visitors coming to Sweden this year. Now, a new survey from Countryside Hotels shows who the Swedes' favorite tourists are.

It has been a record summer for the Swedish tourism industry, with both a weak exchange rate for the Swedish krona and an increased interest in so-called coolcations, where foreign visitors are attracted by the cooler climate up in the Nordics, being considered to have contributed to the interest. A new survey from Countryside Hotels now reveals who the Swedes' favorite tourists are.

”"Swedes are a welcoming people, opening both cottage and castle doors to people from all over the world. The survey shows that despite this, there are some favorites," says Anna Övergaard, Marketing Manager at Countryside Hotels.

This is where Swedes' favorite tourists will come from in 2024

  1. Norway (16%)
  2. United Kingdom (11%)
  3. United States (10%)
  4. Denmark (8%)
  5. Italy (7%)

”It is clear that we like our neighbors more, including the British and Americans, where many Swedes can certainly feel a closeness to the language and cultural references in these countries,” says Anna Övergaard.

The survey was conducted in spring 2024 on behalf of Countryside Hotels and was answered by 831 Swedes over the age of 18.

According to the press release.
