The floods in Västernorrland have halted train traffic, and now SJ (Swedish State Railways) is announcing that it is cancelling all services on several routes, reports Tidningen Ångermanland.
The train company states that the cancelled services are in effect until Thursday 11 September, inclusive.
– We don’t have enough buses to replace all the trains, says Ronny Hörstrand from SJ’s press office to the newspaper. According to SJ, the trains usually used on the route are stuck in Umeå.
– That's why we can't proceed with the travellers from Sundsvall. We don't have that many extra trains, says Hörstrand. If the train stoppage isn't lifted by Friday 12 September, further departures may be cancelled.
The affected sections are:
Sundsvall Central–Umeå Central / Umeå Central–Sundsvall Central (SJ High-speed train).
Stockholm C–Luleå–Narvik/Narvik–Luleå–Stockholm C (SJ Night Train).
Norrtåg is also cancelling several departures on the Umeå–Sundsvall route.
