Almost three million travellers passed through Swedavia's ten airports in May, a decrease of one per cent compared to May 2024. International travel levels were unchanged year-on-year, while domestic travel continued to decrease overall. This year's summer programme has commenced, with a total of 21 new flight routes opening.
International traffic increased at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Malmö Airport and Åre Östersund Airport during May. At Swedavia's airports in northern Sweden, demand for domestic travel remained higher.
This summer, Swedavia's airports will launch a total of 21 new flight routes. Arlanda will introduce 15 new routes, seven of which are to new destinations. Two new airlines are establishing themselves at Arlanda: Animawings has started operating flights to Bucharest, and AJet will begin services to Istanbul. Landvetter will launch six new routes, three of which are to new destinations.
In June, the airline United returns with seasonal service to New York, and also Air Canada with air service to Toronto. This means that Delta, United and SAS will serve New York during the summer, and Air Canada will serve Toronto.

Just over three million travellers passed through Swedavia's ten airports in May. This is a decrease of one percent compared to May 2024 and corresponds to 83 percent of pre-2019 levels. International travel remains at the same levels as the previous year, while domestic travel decreased by six percent compared to May 2024, primarily in the southern parts of Sweden.
Sweden's largest airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport, saw a four percent increase in passenger numbers in May compared to May 2024. International travel increased by one percent, while domestic travel increased by 24 percent. In total, over 2.2 million passengers travelled via Arlanda in May, which is 97 percent of 2019 levels. International travel reached 1.8 million passengers, while domestic travel increased to just over 378,000 passengers.
Sweden's second-largest airport, Göteborg Landvetter Airport, had just under 483,000 travellers in May, which means a decrease of two percent compared to the previous year. During May, just under 431,000 travellers flew internationally, which is a decrease of three percent. Domestic travel remained at the same levels as May 2024 with just over 51,000 travellers. In May, traveller levels were at 80 percent of 2019 levels.
The other eight Swedavia airports saw varying passenger development in May compared to May 2024. Compared to May of last year, Luleå Airport recorded the strongest passenger development with a five percent increase in May, closely followed by Åre Östersund Airport, which increased by four percent. Umeå Airport increased by one percent compared to May 2024. The remaining five airports saw weaker development compared to the previous year.
Kiruna Airport saw a four percent decrease and Malmö Airport an eight percent decrease, while Ronneby Airport and Visby Airport decreased by 16 and 19 percent respectively. Bromma Stockholm Airport shows the weakest performance compared to May 2024, with a 99 percent decrease. The development at Bromma Stockholm Airport is due to airline traffic planning. The majority of Stockholm traffic has been at Stockholm Arlanda Airport since the turn of the year.
