In connection with this, the airport's new terminal section was also inaugurated, which is the largest expansion to date in the airport's history.
After a break of a couple of years, the popular event TakeOff has been resumed and was held today at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport with just over 120 participants. Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO, and Anna Strömwall, Airport Manager, welcomed the participants to a rewarding seminar with a focus on climate change, the future of aviation and accessibility to the rest of the world.
The event was held in the airport's new terminal section, which opened in the summer of 2020. The new terminal section is 200 meters long and has expanded the previous area by a whopping 18,500 square meters. Today, the new terminal was finally officially opened.
– I am very happy that today we have finally inaugurated the new terminal properly, at the same time as we have resumed our TakeOff meetings after a few years of break. It has felt important to both show off our new terminal and talk together about how we future-proof aviation, says Anna Strömwall, Airport Manager Gothenburg Landvetter Airport at Swedavia.
– We can once again look positively to the future and the new terminal has enabled the increased air traffic and destination development that we have seen, and see ahead of us. The new terminal section, with separation of arriving and departing Non-Schengen travelers, has been a prerequisite for attracting more international airlines and routes to our airport, continues Anna Strömwall.
The efforts have paid off. On April 28, SAS will launch a new and much-anticipated direct route to New York, an important addition to the region's business and tourism sector.
– There are strong connections between Sweden and the USA, and New York has long been high on the Gothenburg region's wish list for new direct routes from Landvetter, says Anna Strömwall.
The information about the new direct route to the major metropolis on the American East Coast was met with applause during the TakeOff event. Finally, the ribbon for the new terminal section was cut, which Anna Strömwall did with great success, with Swedavia's President and CEO Jonas Abrahamsson at her side and amidst cheers, applause and happy faces.
