A Japanese train driver is suing his employer after being fined just over 3 kronor for causing a one-minute delay in June last year.
The train company, JR West, says that “if you don’t work, you don’t get paid,” but the train driver says it wasn’t his fault, according to The Guardian.
The driver allegedly waited at the wrong platform, delaying another train by another minute. He was initially fined for causing a two-minute delay, which was later reduced to one.
Japanese train services are known for being punctual and the issue has caused a reaction from travelers.
“I would go crazy if I was in charge of the payroll office and had to deduct minutes from people's salaries for every mistake they made,” writes one traveler on social media.
In 2017, a Tokyo train company apologized for causing “serious inconvenience” after one of its trains derailed. 20 seconds late.
