A high pressure has parked over Scandinavia and looks like it wants to stay.
This means low temperatures, and that the meteorological winter may be creeping south.
– It's a very static weather situation we're in right now. We have high pressure that has settled over Scandinavia. It will remain there for a few days next week, says Jon Jörpeland at SMHI.
The coming days will see clouds in southern Sweden and clearer weather in northern Sweden. In terms of temperature, this means a minimum of minus degrees in the south, while in the north it could creep down to five to ten degrees below zero locally.
The meteorological winter – that is, a daily average temperature of below zero for five days in a row – is present across much of Norrland, and a bit over Dalarna and northern Värmland. With the high pressure, it may creep even further down over Svealand in the coming days.
– We have a few days when the temperature can be a couple of degrees below zero, and at most it rises to around zero degrees, says Jörpeland.
However, there is no snow in sight. Overall, there is not much snow at all in the country at the moment.
– It's mainly in the northern mountains, actually. Even in Jämtland, there is bare ground in many places. There is unusually little snow for this time of year.
A class 1 warning has been issued for the northern Lapland mountains due to very strong winds. However, that warning is expected to be lifted on Tuesday when the winds are expected to calm down at least temporarily.
